Barbara Mayer

Barbara studied Tourism and Hotel Management at the Budapest Business School in Hungary.
She was searching for an internship in sustainable tourism when she came across PAN Parks. She
spent a year as an intern at the foundation and after graduating she officially joined the PAN
Parks team in 2007. She has been responsible for coordinating tourism development activities
within the foundation since then.

PAN Parks is the only European-wide organisation focusing on the protection of wilderness
areas, using tourism as a tool to wilderness protection. It applies an integrated approach to
mobilise sustainable tourism development for strengthening wilderness conservation.

Barbara is committed supporting the promotion of the best of Europe’s Wilderness through
tourism and through the new tourism model what was developed in 2008. This new strategy
aims to raise awareness to these special wilderness areas and generate income involving a
network of incoming tour operators and international tour operators.
