Dr. Peter Fredman is a Professor in nature-based tourism at the European Tourism Research Institute (ETOUR) and Mid-Sweden University, Campus Östersund. His main research interests circles around four areas: Demand studies (outdoor recreation participation, non-participation, demand, constraints and trends); Visitor monitoring and planning (particularly applied to parks and protected areas), Economic analyses (non-market valuation, expenditure analyses and image values); and Nature tourism supply analyses (commodification of nature and access). Peter Fredman has a M.Sc. in Forestry and PhD in forest economics from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Stockholm. In 2007 he became a Docent in Tourism Studies at Mid-Sweden University. During his scientific career he has been responsible for several research projects focusing on mountain tourism, visitor monitoring and national park tourism. He is currently directing a national Swedish research program on outdoor recreation and nature tourism involving 15 researchers at seven universities (www.friluftsforskning.se). He is a review committee member for the Norwegian Research Council, an editorial board member of the Scandinavian Journal of Tourism and Hospitality Research, and a board member of the Swedish Tourism Association (STF). He has chaired several national research conferences and in 2005 he Co-chaired the International Symposium on Society and Resource Management (ISSRM) with 500 participants from 37 countries. Peter Fredman has previously
worked for the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the Swedish Mountain Safety Board, and has been a freelance writer for outdoor recreation and other special interest magazines.
